Antonio Simoes*, B.Sc., LL.B., (*denotes a Professional Law Corporation) is a Senior Lawyer and the Founder of the Deer Lake Law Group. He earned a Science Degree (B.Sc.) with a specialization in Psychology in 1990 and Law Degree (LL.B.) in 1995 at the University of Alberta.
During his years in Family Law practice, Antonio witnessed first-hand the damaging effects of prolonged litigation, and the toll that such conflict took on families, their assets and their children. He is dedicated to bringing a more straightforward approach to family law and the restructuring of families. Throughout the divorce process, negotiation, mediation and the Courts are very powerful tools which he uses skillfully to resolve the difficult issues of asset division, spousal and child support and parenting time.
In 1978, Antonio immigrated to Canada with his parents. Now, Antonio is passionate about helping others make Canada their new home by finding creative solutions for his Immigration clients.
Presently, Antonio's practice is focused on Family Law, Immigration and general civil matters. In addition to English, Antonio is fluent in Portuguese and proficient in Spanish.
Antonio is a proud supporter of the Burnaby Neighbourhood House and is a member of its Executive Board. He is also a member of the SFU Animal Care Committee, which deals with the ethical and meritorious use of animals in research and teaching.

Kate Lee, B.Sc., J.D., is an Associate at the Deer Lake Law Group. She studied Life Science at the University of British Columbia and received her Law Degree - Juris Doctorate from the University of Ottawa.
Kate's ability to connect with others and respond promptly to her clients' needs ensures that concerns and issues raised by clients are addressed in a timely manner. She is eager to assist her clients until an appropriate solution is achieved for each situation. Kate's areas of practice include Family Law (Supreme Court and Provincial Court) and Estate Planning.
In addition to English, Kate is fluent in Korean and Japanese. She works closely with her clients to ensure that no one experiences a language barrier when addressing their legal matters.

Lisa Sirlin, B.A., LL.B., is a Family Mediator at the Deer Lake Law Group. She earned a Law Degree (LL.B) from the University of British Columbia in 1993 and is a member of Family Mediation Canada (F.M.C.).
Her compassion, empathy and desire to help people brought her to the field of family mediation. Lisa devotes herself to helping families and individuals achieve their goals, through mutually acceptable agreements and mediation.
Lisa aims to reduce the cost and stress of dealing with any legal issue, and particularly saving children from the negative consequences of family separation and divorce.

Violetta Terpetska is the Immigration Paralegal at the Deer Lake Lake Group. Violetta’s interest in immigration law stems from her own journey of immigrating to Canada. Filing her own applications, eventually becoming a Permanent Resident, and later a Citizen of Canada was a challenging experience! This ultimately rewarding process encouraged her to help others with immigration matters.
Violetta holds a Masters of Philology (M. Phil.) from the Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University, in the Ukraine. She also completed the University of British Columbia’s diploma program in Immigration Consultancy and became a licensed Regulated Immigration Consultant in Canada.
Violetta is eager to facilitate the often-unpredictable journey to obtaining PR and citizenship in Canada, help reunite families with their loved ones, bring workers from abroad, and give young people the opportunity to study in Canada’s many well-respected colleges and universities.
Violetta is fluent in English, Russian, and Ukrainian.

Lana Shparberg, B.Ed., is the Client Services Manager at the Deer Lake Law Group. She earned a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Calgary. She is trained and experienced in Family Law client support, and general administrative client matters.
Her background as an educator makes Lana particularly sensitive to the needs of clients dealing with the breakdown of a relationship. She has a strong ability to connect with, and assist clients through any difficult transitionsal period, such as divorce, personal injury, loss of employment or loss of a loved one.
As a former marketing and business consultant, she is a natural fit for the everyday operational demands of a boutique law office.
Lana is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Burnaby Metrotown, serving as a Club President for the 2019-2021 term.
